Lupita Nyong’o was the starlet of the night, new toast of Hollywood and screen darling, my leading lady at the Golden Globes but unfortunately not at the Oscars…. where fashion was concerned that is. Sometimes it appears the style platform at these award shows is wasted because the colours are almost always quite predictable. If only the ladies would grab the opportunity with both hands and be a little bolder with their colours – dare to be different. There were lots of cream, nude and gold detailed dresses as expected but unfortunately, none of these captured our attention like the following beauties…..
Camila Alves in Gabriela Cadena – At HĚVENEIRESS LONDON, we agree that “modesty is more”. Camila looked so regal, elegant and graceful! The pale pink, the drapery, her statuesque frame, MY WORD! Like she knew her man Matthew would win the coveted Best Actor award and was dressed accordingly. This dress certainly won our seal of approval – Pure design fantasy!
Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen – It cannot be denied that Sandra knows just what hits the spot when it comes to her style. This midnight blue gown contours her hour-glass figure perfectly.
Lupita Nyong’o in Prada – A star is born! Lupita certainly knows how to stand out from a crowd, and has recreated her usual captivating look in this blue Cinderella dress. However, the hairband and the plunging neckline detract from the prettiness of the picture unfortunately. She still makes our best-dressed list because of the beautiful contrast this dreamy gown creates with her silky skin tone and the fact that she dared to be different with her choice of colour.
Charlize Theron in Christian Dior – Charlize looked great! She never disappoints and has done it again in this dramatic number – I call this a “sleevelusion” gown, crafted with “barely there” nude coloured sleeves – so feminine.
Amy Adams in Gucci – Amy showed off her stunning sense of style and simplicity in this navy blue Gucci dress. She looked fresh and oozed confidence.
Anne Hathaway in Gucci – Anne looked sophisticated, her hair was just right for this gown. The metallic detail added a touch of glitz to this silhouette – simple and tasteful.
